The Bethel Beacon November 2014

November is a month in which we give thanks. Martin Luther, in his catechism, begins his morning & evening prayers with these words “We give thanks to you, heavenly Father”, and that is how we should begin & end our days. As we awaken every morning, we should give God Thanks for keeping us through the night, we should give God thanks for the opportunities that await us each and every day. And we should end our day with very specific thanks for the blessings showered upon us each and every day.

Name those blessings one by one as you drift off to sleep. What better way to end a day than speaking with God. The 1st Sunday in November, we remember and give God thanks for those men & women who have been a part of our lives. At worship on November 2nd, we will read the names of those you have known and who have died this past year and also throughout your life. We will read the names of fathers, mothers, sons, daughters. How have they been a part of your life? Give God thanks for their witness. We will get an additional hour of sleep on the first Sunday in November as Daylight Savings Time ends and we turn back our clocks. Do we give God thanks for his timely creations? Give God thanks for his change of seasons, for clocks, watches and all sorts of electronic time devices as we change our clocks.

On the 2nd Sunday in November we will hear from a media specialist from Bryant School. What an appropriate time to give God thanks for children in school, for the teachers who teach them, for our bus drivers and crossing guards.

The 3rd Sunday in November we will collect boxes for Operation Christmas Child as we gather & pray over the boxes of gifts that you have assembled for Children throughout the world. Remember to pray for our children worldwide as they grow in years, as they receive simple gifts that show they are loved.

The 4th Sunday in November we will pray for the gift of music. We have such talented musicians who provide for our worship services. Take time to thank them for the vital ministry that they provide . . . the choir director & choir, the soloist & small groups, the ensemble & their director.

Thanksgiving Day comes midweek. We will celebrate as we give thanks for so many blessings. We will also celebrate a baptism. Give God thanks for the children who receive this sacrament.

The last Sunday in November will be a service lead by our youth. Pray in thanksgiving for our youth. Pray for them by name. If you do not know them, introduce yourself. Our youth have such great talent and are willing to share those talents. We will celebrate another baptism. Pray in thanksgiving for a young family who bring their child to be baptized. Pray in thanksgiving that each of you will promise to help raise that child in the Christian faith. Pray for safety for our hunters, pray in thanksgiving for the women of the church who will have the church decorated for Christmas, as Advent begins in November. Keep on praying as we worship, but as we begin and end each day.

Saying Prayers,

Pastor Gary
